Firewall systems provide security against threats from the Internet and, if you have your own servers, e.g. mail servers, they provide secure connections from the local network to internal servers.

Correctly implemented solutions protect traffic at the interface between the network and the Internet, but should also protect critical points within the network, such as servers. In addition to filtering traffic on the basis of the type, source, and destination of packets, Next Generation Firewall systems also perform application inspection for protection at a higher level. Today’s devices often perform a number of additional functions, such as email protection (anti-virus and anti-spam systems), WEB (Web Application Firewall), intrusion detection, sandbox.
